Who We Are...

“Killing feral cats is as pointless as killing homeless pets”

Noah's Children is a loosely formed group of feral cat activists and cat lovers who address specific issues related to feral cats. The mission of Noah's Children is TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) an internationally recognized program by which cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, and returned to their original location. A feral cat caregiver, usually a volunteer rescue worker, feeds the cats on a regular basis and bring them to a veterinarian if they require medical assistance. The resultant group of cats, including any new cats entering the caregiver's sphere, is known as a managed feral cat colony. Along with TNR, caregivers promote public education about society's responsibility to our communities and to the domestic animals we have created.

If you know someone who has a barn, please have them contact us. Help us save these abandoned cats; open your heart and your barns!

Intake Policy - Will Noah's Children except Cats from the Public?

We receive many, many calls, email messages and letters from people asking whether we will accept their cats. People call us:

We recognize that there are situations in which members of the public will have cats that are in hopeless situations. In order to remain true to our mission, we only accept cats that are being TNRed. Simply put; the cats come to us for sterilization and go back to their colonies where their caretaker(s) maintain them.

Will Noah's Children take my stray cat or kittens that I found under my porch?

At this time, Noah's Children is not equipped to take stray or abandonded cats. Please contact the Annapolis SPCA for a list of rescue groups and shelters that will.

Where do the cats at Noah's Children come from?

We have a very "limited" number of spaces reserved for cats in dire situations or who are not medically fit to be returned to their colonies.

These spaces are reserved soley for our volunteers who are maintaining colonies or other groups/rescuers we maybe assisting at the time.

The cats/kittens seen here generally needed intensive care and are in some type of "emergency" situation. Through hands on treatment from our volunteers and too much time spent away from their colonies, they become tame.

These are the only cats that you will see on our web site.

Adopting from Noah's Children...

Feral Cats: Our goal is population control through humane methods, in the many feral cat colonies through out the MD/DC/VA area.

Secondly, we concentrate on placing as many of our tame colony cats into loving and responsible homes. Our adoption procedure is strict and our screening process thorough. We make every effort possible to correctly match cat and human so as not to subject the animal to further rejection or abandonment. Prospective adopters are asked to complete an Adoption Application and when adopting, must sign an Adoption Agreement.

Barn Cats: All you have to do is agree to take a minimum of two cats, fill out an adoption application, and have a barn site inspection. After receipt of a completed application, you will receive a set of NCI Barn Placement Guidelines explaining how to acclimate the cats into your barn.

Adoption fees/Donations:$100 for one cat or kitten. All of our animals are spayed or neutered PRIOR to being re-homed, tested for FIV/FeLV, dewormed, vaccinated for FVRCPC (distemper combo) & Rabies (if old enough), treated for fleas, ear mites, and anything else that might be necessary prior to adoption. Our cats that are placed in barn/farm homes or indoor/outdoor homes have been micro chipped for their protection.

Become a Feral-Cat Feeder

Noah's Children is looking for responsible individuals to feed our feral cats. These are homeless cats who have either been abandoned by their original owners or are the progeny of abandoned cats, and who have resorted to their wild (or "feral") instincts to survive. Because of their shy nature, they find it difficult to adjust to becoming house cats. Our ferals live in managed colonies where they help keep the rodent population under control. NCI is dedicated to making these cats' lives easier.

As a volunteer for our feral-cat program, you will be feeding "your" feral cats at a scheduled time each week at a designated location. Our cats are fed both wet and dry food along with fresh water in the morning. The food is donated by NCI supporters and can be picked up by the feral feeders at a designated location.

Typically, our volunteer feeders commit to one or two feedings a week, depending on their personal schedules and commitments. When a volunteer is unable to feed, she/he calls a substitute (usually another feeder for that location).

Each location has a volunteer coordinator, and the feral program itself is overseen by the program coordinator. We feed our cats every day year-round, including holidays! Many of the cats in our feral colonies have been with us for 5 years or more. The nourishment we provide sustains them, and the small shelters built by volunteers offer the cats shelter from inclement weather.

Our feeders monitor the ferals, and if any exhibit illness or injury, they are given medical attention. All our cats have names and distinct personalities, and some even reward our compassion with a head-butt or purr! Because all our cats are spayed/neutered and inoculated against disease, they do not contribute to cat overpopulation or spread illness.

If you've been thinking of getting involved in community activities and you love cats, helping our homeless ferals as a volunteer feeder could be just the thing for you. Our veteran feeders will attest to this rewarding and humane contribution to the community.
